Who We Are
GAPWUZ is a membership based trade union formed by the farm workers in 1982 and was registered in 1985 and then certified in 1986. It represents the interests of the farm workers from all the sectors in the Agriculture industry.

The subsectors are General Agriculture, Sugarcane, Tea and Coffee, Kapenta, Horticulture, Timber and Agro.
GAPWUZ has negotiators derived from the farm workers from all the seven sectors in the Agriculture industry who go for collective bargaining meetings at the National Employment Council for Agriculture.
Any farm worker from grade A1 to C2.
The dues that you pay every month allow the union to meet the operational costs and to continue providing services of value to you.
Check off system : The employer deducts the 2% and transfer the amount to the Union’s bank account.

GAPWUZ is a trade union for the agricultural employees. GAPWUZ has multiple responsibilities which include:
- Regulating the relationship between members and their employers and to protect and further the interest of members in relations to their employers.
- Encouraging the settlement of disputes by conciliatory methods.
- Promoting and encourage practical and technical training of members.
- Promoting good working relations between employers and employees
- Providing, when necessary, legal assistance to members deemed on matters connected with or arising from their employment.
- Ensuring safety at workplace and promoting good living conditions for workers.
- Eradicating Child labour including the worst forms of child labour
Carrying out training workshops for employees on issues to do with labour regulations.
The farm employees who have signed a stop order form joining GAPWUZ and subscribing to the union.
Minimum wages differ for each of the sectors (General Agriculture, Sugarcane, Tea and Coffee, Kapenta, Horticulture, Timber and Agro). In addition, in each sector, the minimum wage will depend on the grade of the employee. Have a look at our download section which has the minimum wages for the different sectors.
Michael Mukokeza rose from rank and file member and became active in union activities carrying out organizing and recruitment activities in Mt Hampden area and along Shamva road farms. He was elected into the workers’ committee and was trained as a shopsteward and was able to handle grievances for workers in the Lomagundi branch in the absence of the area officer. He was then employed as GAPWUZ full time organizing secretary for Harare and Beatrice.
Peter Howa rose from rank and file and was an activist and was elected into the union national executive as the vice pressident and later became GAPWUZ organizing secretary for Concession covering areas of Mazowe, Bindura, Glendale and Chiweshe.
